Users

The following tasks are available for user management in Enterprise Chef:

  • Creating users
  • Editing a user’s profile
  • Changing a password
  • Recovering a password
  • Regenerating a private key
  • Viewing a user’s profile

Change Password

To change a user’s password:

  1. Open the Chef management console.

  2. From the drop-down list next to your username, select My Profile.

  3. Under Users, click Change Password.

  4. In the Change Password, enter the old password and then the new password.

  5. When finished, click Change Password.

Generate Config File

To generate a new knife configuration file:

  1. Open the Chef management console.
  2. Click Administration.
  3. Click Organizations.
  4. Click Generate Knife Config.
  5. Specify the location to which the configuration file will be downloaded.

Get Starter Kit

To get the starter kit:

  1. Open the Chef management console.
  2. Click Administration.
  3. Click Organizations.
  4. Click Starter Kit.
  5. Follow the steps on the starter kit page.

Reset Client Key

To regenerate a client key:

  1. Open the Chef management console.

  2. Click Policy.

  3. Click Clients.

  4. Select a client key.

  5. Click the Details tab.

  6. Click Reset Key.

  7. In the Reset Key dialog box, confirm that the key should be regenerated and click the Reset Key button:

  8. Copy the private key:

    or download and save the private key locally:

Reset Node Key

To reset the validation key for a node:

  1. Open the Chef management console.

  2. Click Nodes.

  3. Select a node.

  4. Click Edit Run List.

  5. In the Reset Key dialog box, confirm that the key should be regenerated and click the Regenerate Key button:

  6. In the Reset Key dialog box, copy the key directly from the dialog box or click the Download button to download the key to your local machine:

Reset User Key

To reset a user’s validation key:

  1. Open the Chef management console.

  2. From the drop-down list next to your username, select My Profile.

  3. Under Users, click Reset Key.

  4. In the Reset Key dialog box, confirm that the key should be regenerated and click the Regenerate Key button:

  5. In the Reset Key dialog box, copy the key directly from the dialog box or click the Download button to download the key to your local machine:

Reset Org Key

To reset the validation key:

  1. Open the Chef management console.

  2. Click Administration.

  3. Click Organizations.

  4. Click Reset Validation Key.

  5. In the Reset Key dialog box, confirm that the key should be regenerated and click the Regenerate Key button:

  6. In the Reset Key dialog box, copy the key directly from the dialog box or click the Download button to download the key to your local machine:

View User Account Details

To view user account settings:

  1. Open the Chef management console.
  2. From the drop-down list next to your username, select My Profile.
